Increasing pressure on your child is undoubtedly unhealthy.

So what can be done?

Encourage your child to aim for excellence rather than perfection.

It will help him to avoid mistakes that can destroy his sense of worth. Don’t criticise excessively; instead, present a sandwich of praise, criticism, and praise. For example — “Good job cleaning your room!” or something similar. “You made the bed very well, but I noticed that you didn’t fold your t-shirts before putting them away.”

Parents who demand too much perfection end up micromanaging and going too far. As a result, these so-called helicopter parents run the risk of preventing their children from learning how to recover from errors.

Teach your child that how we solve problems is what matters and encourage him to learn from his mistakes.

To demonstrate to him that we are all works in progress, tell him about how you overcame your own setbacks. For instance, “When I didn’t win the art contest, I thought the world would end around me. But in the end, I persisted and improved.”
